The Cowardice of Republican Senators Murkowski and Collins
Murkowski and Collins, were elected to six-year terms that end January 20th, 2021, not September 18th 2020 as they would have you believe.
Just do the damn job.
I would like the two outlying Senators to keep in mind the reason Supreme Court nominations and confirmations have become so contentious is due to Barack Obama's and Harry Reid's outrageous decision to use the Nuclear Option and change the process for confirming Federal Judges which was in place to force the parties to make concessions to each other to ensure confirmation - thus stopping each party from confirming extremists to the Federal bench. But the left believed, even as far back as 2013-14, they had turned the corner towards a socialist agenda and would carry the 2016 election easily, allowing them to break the back of SCOTUS with ideological activists who would make law from the bench.
Obama was against the Nuclear Option back in 2005 when Bush was President and Obama was a junior Senator from Illinois - "What (the American people) don't expect is for one party, be it Republican or Democrat, to change the rules in the middle of the game so they can make all the decisions while the other party is told to sit down and keep quiet," Obama said on the Senate floor in April 2013. He added, "If the right of free and open debate is taken away from the minority party and the millions of Americans who ask us to be their voice, I fear the partisan atmosphere in Washington will be poisoned to the point where no one will be able to agree on anything."
But when it benefitted the Democratic Party, Obama was of a mind that basically said 'Damn the torpedoes, full steam ahead and let the Republicans eat cake!'
It would seem McConnell is a seer of epic proportions, adding - “There not a doubt in my mind that if the majority breaks the rules of the Senate to change the rules of the Senate with regard to nominations, the next majority will do it for everything,” McConnell said.
Backed by Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN), McConnell brought up this scenario -
“I wouldn’t be able to argue, a year and a half from now if I were the majority leader, to my colleagues that we shouldn’t enact our legislative agenda with a simple 51 votes, having seen what the previous majority just did,” he said. “I mean there would be no rational basis for that.”
The stakes are too high to allow cowards in the ranks.
When the Democratic Party - The Party of Socialism, the Party of riots, the Party of violence, the Party of BLM Marxists, the Party of Antifa fascists, the Party of non-stop baseless investigations and allegations of a duly elected President, the Party of treason, the Party of sedition, the Party of lies and the Party of educational indoctrination - when that Party cries foul because senators fulfill their duties by confirming a constitutionally nominated jurist during a Presidential four-year term, you know they have gone off the rails! The Democrats would have you believe the senate doing their job was an egregious act of epic proportions! And due to this madness, the full weight of what this confirmation means to this country, to our way of life, and to our Constitution should be crystal clear and in razor-sharp focus.
It means Americans win.
A confirmation means all Americans win, even those on the Left who either don't understand or don't care, will have their freedoms protected for a generation or more. It means Donald Trump's Presidency - with the exception of Abraham Lincoln's - will go down in U.S. history as the most influential and meaningful in the annals of this country no matter if he wins or loses the November 3rd elections.
Just do the damn job.
Murkowski and Collins are worried about their re-election campaigns, afraid a vote may hurt their chances. I will tell them this, I can only imagine the disappointment of your constituents come November 3rd if you refuse to vote or support this confirmation. You will have placed your own interests ahead of your constituents, your state, and your country... and for that, you will not be forgiven.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a fighter, a stalwart, and a trailblazer who didn't back down from the fight. Senators Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins would do well to see the value of those virtues and fight to defend the Constitutional confirmation of Ms. Ginsburg's replacement.
NOVEMBER 3rd WE MAKE OUR STAND
